paint-ready or wallpaper-ready: determine the end goal
Choose the finishing before the plaster starts
Bring a wallpaper steel or information about the chosen paint. A thin smooth wallpaper, a thick relief wallpaper and a dark paint make other requirements at the visible base. Use ready to be wallpapered or ready to be painted' therefore as a start of the conversation. Let describe what work is done and how the surface is checked before the next finish.
Smoothness and flatness are different properties
Small wells and scratches are part of the fine surface finish; a wide wave is about the shape of the plane. Ask for visible deviations or flattening is necessary. The final lighting and shine level influence what you see. A test surface with the chosen follow-up system can help to make the expectations concrete.
Who's doing the final preparatory work?
Capture who removes dust, update any small spots and apply the right pre-treatment for the paint or wallpaper. paint-ready does not mean that the wall has already been painted. A clear transfer prevents two performers from assuming that the other one takes care of that step. Save the appointments together with the chosen material and colour.
This is what you discuss in advance
- Pass paint, wallpaper, colour and lighting in advance.
- Make a distinction between flattening and finishing fine.
- Name sanding, cleaning, primer and painting separately.

More answers on this topic
Is ready to wallpaper enough for any wallpaper?
This follows from the chosen wallpaper and the requirements on the substrate. Let especially thin or smooth wall coverings discuss in advance and bring a steel.
Does getting paint-ready mean I don't need preparation anymore?
Not of course. Speak the transfer to the painter, including cleaning, possibly updating and the appropriate pre-treatment.
Choose the finishing level with the final material
Paint-ready and wallpaper-ready are useful terms, but the required finish depends on the job. Discuss the paint or wallpaper you have chosen. Thin, plain wallpaper can require different preparation from thick patterned paper, while dark paint may highlight surface imperfections.
The agreed stucco finishing and the work of the painter must be linked. Ask who performs small finishes, who removes dust and which pre-treatment is part of the paint or wall covering. This does not create any uncertainty between two performers.
This is what you want to meet before the performance
| Component | What should you discuss? |
|---|---|
| Matt wall paint | Discuss an even basis and the preparation that the painter is still performing. |
| Dark or shiny paint | Bring light that falls along the surface, any test surfaces and additional after-treatment. |
| Thin wallpaper | Assess the substrate with the actual wallpaper type. |
| Structure wallpaper | Here too, a solid, dry and suitable basis remains important. |
This is how you make your question concrete
You let the hall and living room finish at the same time, but choose wallpaper in the hall and paint in the living room. Write down the final material per wall. One description for the whole house can be too general. With a wallstand professional for plastering and painter know what preparation is agreed at which place.
Use this example as a call help, and the appropriate working method is determined by the actual state of your space.

Questions about this finish
Is paint-ready the same as paint-ready?
The terms are often used for a similar purpose. Deciding is the agreed surface quality and the work that is still needed before the paint.
Does primer belong to paint-ready plaster?
This follows from the quotation. Delivering a suitable plaster base does not automatically mean that the paint specific primer has already been applied.
