Decorative plaster and textured finishes
decorative plaster gives color and structure; product, grain and processing determine the final image.

Choose decorative plaster by texture, colour and use
The grain changes the image of space
A fine structure looks different from a coarse grain. View steel preferably upright and in the light of the wall. Compare also the connection to plinths, window frames and adjacent smooth walls. A colour on a screen is not a reliable replacement for a material steel in the room.
A structure layer doesn't hide every flaw
Show seams, cracks and unevenness in advance. A decorative finish still needs a suitable substrate. Please decide which repair and flattening is carried out before the structure is applied. This way you avoid choosing a product on the assumption that it will eliminate all existing irregularities automatically.
Maintenance is part of the material selection
Tell us if the wall enters a corridor, living room or other utility room. Ask which cleaning is possible and how damage is repaired later. In case of a continuous wall, local updating can remain visible. Keep the product name, colour information and any paint information, so that a later repair can be discussed specifically.
This is what you discuss in advance
- View a physical steel for grain and color.
- Have cracks and substrate repair assessed separately.
- Keep product and color data for maintenance.

Is spachtelputz the same as all decorative plaster?
Spachtelputz is one known type of structure finish. The collective name decorative plaster does not yet say enough about grain, binder, appearance and maintenance. Ask which concrete product is proposed.
Can decorative plaster be smoothed again later?
This is a new assessment of the existing structure. The adhesion, structure and desired final finish determine whether an appropriate overlay is possible or if other work is needed first.
Structure, grain and colour together determine the result
With decorative plaster, you not only choose a colour. The grain size, the pattern, the hand of the processor and the light invader influence how quiet or lively a wall looks. Therefore, look at a larger preview plane and judge it where the finish is applied.
Restoring an existing structure locally can remain visible. If one wall is viewed as a continuous flat, finishing of that entire surface can give a more even image. Discuss the desired maintenance and possible overpaintability with the product selection.
This is what you want to meet before the performance
| Component | What should you discuss? |
|---|---|
| Fine structure | Gives a different shadow image than a coarser grain. |
| Continuous visible surface | Plan working boundaries at corners or other logical transitions. |
| Color Selection | Look at the sample in daylight and the final lighting. |
| Inside or outside | Use a product structure intended for that load. |
This is how you make your question concrete
For an accent wall next to a large window, a small colour sample is sometimes insufficient. A test surface shows better what the pattern and grain do in side light. Before design determine which example is the starting point and how the other walls fit in with it.
Use this example as a call help, and the appropriate working method is determined by the actual state of your space.

Questions about this finish
Is spachtelputz also decorative plaster?
Spachtelputz is a well-known structure finish within the wide group of decorative plasters. Product, grain and processing determine the visual image and the application possibilities.
Can damaged decorative plaster be repaired invisible?
This is not always feasible. Differences in colour, aging, grain and processing patterns can remain visible. Discuss local repair compared to re-finishing a whole surface.
