New-build plastering

The suitable new construction finish depends on wall material, flatness, seams and your desired end layer.

Practical explanation

New construction plasters from key transfer

View the delivery level per component

New construction is not equally flat or finished everywhere. When transferring keys, take pictures of concrete walls, blocks, plate walls and seams. Save information about the structure. Then let us determine which surfaces only need a fine finish and where repair or surface work is first needed. The term "wallpaper-ready' on a delivery document is not yet a choice for your desired paint result.

Plan plastering between other activities

Floors, kitchen installation, electricity and painting can get in the way of each other when the order of work is not clear. Discuss what work needs to be done and how much space is needed for execution and drying. Do not plan the painter exclusively on a fixed calendar date; the substrate should also be really ready for the next finish.

New materials can continue to work

Transitions between different components deserve attention in the chosen detailing. No general promise makes movement of the construction impossible. Let us explain which connections are made and what to do when a crack occurs later on. Take overview photos on completion and keep the agreements about control and possible repair.

This is what you discuss in advance

  • Bring the delivery state and information about wall materials.
  • Tune kitchen, floor, installations and painting together.
  • Ask for explanations about seams and possible movement.

More answers on this topic

Is thin plaster always enough in a new home?

No. That depends on the flatness and suitability of the substrate. Let major deviations, seams and damage be assessed first.

Should I wait until the apartment stops working?

There is no universal waiting time that prevents all movement. Discuss the architectural condition, the indoor climate, the materials and the appropriate planning with the performers concerned.

From delivery state to a coherent completion plan

For new construction walls, seams and connections differ per home and construction system. Check what the builder actually produces. A description as ready to be covered does not give a complete picture of the flatness, visible seams or suitability for the paint you have chosen.

Plan plastering together with kitchen mounting, tiling, flooring and painting. Not only keep space for the execution, but also for drying and a check before the next finish. The correct order prevents a finished surface from being opened or damaged again.

This is what you want to meet before the performance

ComponentWhat should you discuss?
DeliveryCreate images of anomalies and record the existing state.
InstallationsVoice pipework, slots, boxes and recesses first.
FinishDetermine per space paint, wallpaper or structure.
TransferPlan the assessment of the substrate before the painter begins.

This is how you make your question concrete

If you get the kitchen delivered shortly after the key transfer, please pass on the kitchen wall and connection points first. An installation change after plastering may require local restoration. Make a planning with control points instead of one chain of unconditional connecting delivery dates.

Use this example as a call help, and the appropriate working method is determined by the actual state of your space.

Questions about this finish

Is thin plaster more advantageous than traditional plastering?

This is only useful to compare when both systems on the substrate can achieve the agreed result. Extra flattening or repair can change the price difference.

Does plastering prevent all new construction cracks?

No. A finishing layer cannot exclude movement of the building. Discuss material transitions, connection details and how possible later cracks are assessed.
