Bathroom plasters: choose the build-up per wall
A shower wall requires something other than a dry wall
Make it clear on a map where the shower, bath and washbasin are located. A wall that gets directly wet requires a suitable complete system. Only the designation "water repellent" does not say enough about the sealing of the entire construction. Also, let the connection to floor, corner and pipe throughput be included in the material selection.
Concrete look is an appearance, not a technical specification
A seamless grey wall can be made with different products and layers. Therefore, discuss more than the colour: what substrate is needed, how is water load collected and which end protection is included? Ask how the wall can be cleaned. An example steel helps to assess shine, structure and colour nuance before the entire bathroom is finished.
Align the work before installing the plumbing
Pass on the measurements of cranes, furniture and glass walls in time. Ask who executes the connections and when the different layers are sufficiently ready for the next professional. Ventilation remains part of the use of the bathroom. Keep the product information and maintenance information so that it is later clear which cleaning agents and repair products fit the finish.
This is what you discuss in advance
- Mark wet and other wall parts immediately.
- Discuss sealing, input and connections as a whole.
- Ask for a sample and written maintenance instructions.

More answers on this topic
Can ordinary plaster be anywhere in the bathroom?
No. The appropriate application depends, among other things, on the water load and the further finish. Let each wall determine which system fits; do not automatically treat a shower wall the same as a dry wall.
Can existing tiles be stubbled on?
Sometimes suitable renovation construction is possible, but first the adhesion of the tiles and the available connection space are assessed. Separate tiles or moisture problems do not disappear under a new layer.
Choose finish per zone of the bathroom
The wall at the sink is loaded differently from a surface that receives direct shower water daily. Therefore, make an overview of the dry areas, splash zones and directly wet areas. Choose the complete structure based on this load, the substrate and the desired final finish.
A decorative end layer, microcement or concrete look is not automatically a complete waterproof solution. Sealing, inserting, corners and connections must fit the chosen system. Therefore, let plastering, tiling and plumbing match together.
This is what you want to meet before the performance
| Component | What should you discuss? |
|---|---|
| Outside the shower | Assess moisture load and the suitability of the chosen finish. |
| Direct wet zone | Discuss the complete waterproofing system and detailing. |
| Transits and niches | Set connections and order prior to execution. |
| Existing tiles | Have adhesion, flatness and system fitness assessed. |
This is how you make your question concrete
In a bathroom with a tiled shower and a sturdy back wall you want one quiet whole. The color and structure are important, but start at the border between the two finishes. Discuss how the connection is made and who is responsible for sealing and sanitary assembly.
Use this example as a call help, and the appropriate working method is determined by the actual state of your space.

Questions about this finish
Can you put ordinary plaster in the shower?
Do not choose on the basis of a general product group. In direct wet areas, the entire required structure must be suitable for that application. Let the product specifications and connection details be evaluated.
Can I get plaster on bathroom tiles?
This can only be done with a suitable, sufficiently attached substrate and appropriate system construction. Separate tiles or unsolved moisture problems need to be addressed first.
